When Hang Gliding the pilot is fully suspended in a harness beneath a sail (the wing) which is made of fabric and stretched over an graphite or aluminium frame. The Hang Gliding pilot moves themselves around like a pendulum underneath the wing by holding onto an aluminium A-frame. To turn in flight, the pilot shifts and the wing banks as they start to turn. To gain speed the pilots pulls themselves through the A-frame, the weight shifts forward and the hang glider goes into a nose-down position. To slow down the hang glider down the pilot simply pushes the bar away from them and the wings nose lifts up slightly, and the glider slows down.
