Where can I find a Paddle Board company?

It varies from state to state, but anywhere there are large bodies of fresh or salt water. Paddle Boarding is fun for the entire family and a great way to get out on the water and really experience it.

How much does it cost?

Most companies average between $60.00 - $100.00 per person depending on the number of people in the group.

Do I need a wetsuit?

This depends on which type of water you are going to be paddle boarding on. For example, if you are going paddle boarding in the ocean and it’s below 70 degrees -- yes, you need a wetsuit. Wetsuits are provided at no cost by most paddle board companies.

How long is the lesson or tour?

Both the lessons and the tours take at least over an hour in the water. If you are planning your day around a paddle board lesson or tour, you will want to carve out at least two hours from your schedule.

When is the best time to go paddle boarding?

It is usually best to go in the morning before the wind picks up. That way, the water is completely flat which makes it easier. This is particularly true for ocean lessons. It’s difficult enough with the waves anyway and a stiff breeze increases that difficulty.

What is included with my paddle board rental?

Your rental includes life jackets and paddles for each person. There should be life jackets for all ages and sizes, from infant on up. There are smaller size paddles for children ages 4-6.

Do I have to wear a life jacket?

Most assuredly, YES! Each participant is required to sign a waiver that the life jacket will be worn throughout the rental. Life jackets keep you afloat even if you are tired or cold and are a critical piece of safety gear.

What should I wear?

Paddle boarding is a water sport, so make sure your wear waterproof clothes or clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting splashed or dripped on. Street clothes (jeans, t-shirts, shorts, etc.) are fine, but you can choose more specialized synthetic fabrics which dry more quickly than cotton. Sneakers, sandals, water shoes, or flip-flops are fine foot gear. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also recommended.

Can I bring food on our paddle boarding excursion?

Yes, you can. Just be sure you pack it in waterproof gear. Stopping and having a picnic or a snack while on the water is a delightful way to enjoy it. Be aware that alcohol is forbidden. Basic water safety applies to paddle boarding as well as all water sports.

Can I still rent a paddle board even if I am a non-swimmer?

All participants are required to wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket. Non-swimmers are welcome to rent a paddle board and enjoy the paddle boarding experience.

Can children take their own boat?

Yes, they can! Parents or guardians just need to accompany them on the water until age 16. Most paddle board companies will start kids in their own boats around age 6-8; depending on their maturity and the parent/guardian’s comfort level.

What should I bring?

Typically, the only things necessary for a paddle board rental are a form of payment and a Photo I.D. (passport, driver’s license, or another government issued identification. You will probably want to bring water, a snack, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. You may wish to have a retaining strap for your sunglasses and possibly keep a towel in the car for after your paddle.
